Empowering vulnerable youth in Romania and the Republic of Moldova through Education, Mentorship & Career Opportunities

Who We Are

The Social Incubator is a leading social impact organization founded in Romania in 2014 with a simple but powerful mission: to give vulnerable youth the opportunity to build a better life.
Every year , thousands of young people exit the child protection system at just 18 years old, often without family, support, or direction. Without meaningful intervention, many of them face homelessness, unemployment, exploitation, or a lifetime of poverty.

We exist to change that

Over the past decade, we have built one of Eastern Europe’s most impactful social models—empowering more than 65,000 young people through education, mentorship, psychological support, housing, and job integration programs. Our programs are rooted in empathy, strategy, and local partnerships, and have been recognized for driving systemic change in both Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

Now, we are expanding to the United States to mobilize new communities, partnerships and resources that can scale our impact even further.

Why It Matters

In Romania, over 43,000 children live in the child protection system – many placed in foster care, group homes, or residential centers. Each year, approximately 3,900 young people „age out” of this system at just 18 years old, legally considered adults but often left entirely on their own.

  • Only 1 in 40 finds legal employment within the first year of leaving the system.
  • Over 60% struggle with homelessness, unemployment or mental health issues.
  • Many fall victim to trafficking, abuse or poverty due to lack of support and opportunities.

In the Republic of Moldova, the situation is just as urgent.

  • More than 5,000 children remain in institutional care or alternative placement.
  • The country faces one of the highest rates of youth emigration in Europe, with young people leaving due to poverty and lack of opportunity.
  • Girls from vulnerable environments are especially at risk of trafficking and early marriage.

Across both countries, there is a crisis of transition: young people moving from protection into adult life without the tools, skills, or support systems they need.

We step in where the system steps out – offering education, job training and job placement, emotional support, housing and mentorship to help these young people become independent, empowered and employed.

When we invest in them, we don’t just change lives – we change the future of entire communities.

Our Mission

We believe that no young person should be defined by their past or limited by their circumstances. Every youth deserves the chance to dream, grow, and build a life of their own choosing. That’s why we deliver transformative experiences, combining education, career development, and emotional support designed specifically for youth facing the highest risks.

Our mission is to turn abandonment into empowerment and help every young person step into adulthood with dignity, purpose and opportunity.

But the numbers only tell part of the story.

As Anton, one of our beneficiaries, shared:

„If you hadn’t existed, I would have never seen the good side of being abandoned… You offer us opportunities even a child from a family might not have. With people like you, life becomes easier.”
